Lincoln Festival Of Cycling ’17 Returns Bigger & Better Than Ever

Cyclists will have the chance to enjoy a weekend-long cycling extravaganza next year when the Lincoln Festival of Cycling 2017 brings a host of sporting events to the city.

The Lincoln Grand Prix and ITP Events have joined forces to create a unified programme of events scheduled to take place on 12, 13 and 14 of May 2017.

The event is expected to attract cycling enthusiasts from across the East Midlands region and across the country to take part in the Lincoln Criterium, Lincoln GP Sportive, Lincoln Uphill Dash and the Men’s and Women’s Lincoln Grand Prix.

Dan Ellmore for The Lincoln Grand Prix said:

“Lincoln is well known for its cycling events so we’re really pleased to be working with ITP Events to make next year’s event even bigger and better than ever.

“The 2017 event will be bigger and better than ever and won’t disappoint. By working together we’re proud to be protecting the future of Britain’s oldest remaining classic one-day cycle race and a proportion of the Sportive entry fee will contribute toward the Grand Prix.”

Ian Penrose for ITP Events said:

“Entries for the Sportive will open on 1 October numbers are limited to 2,000 to ensure a high-quality experience and a safe ride for participants.

“Our focus now is develop the festival into the UK’s biggest weekend of cycling.”

Tim Downing, director for Pygott & Crone and sponsor for the event added:

“I’ve been a keen cyclist for many years now so I’m thrilled about the Lincoln Festival of Cycling 2017.

“Lincoln’s tourism trade is booming now and events like this help to strengthen that even further and really put our fantastic city on the map.”

The Lincoln Criterium will take place on 12 May, the Lincoln GP Sportive on 13 May (morning), the Uphill Dash on 13 May (evening) and on 14 May, the Lincoln Grand Prix. For more information about the events please click on the links below

Lincoln GP Supports #ShareTheRoad Campaign

With an ever increasing number of cycle related road accidents, the Lincoln Grand Prix is supporting Lincoln-based photographer, film maker, cyclist and organiser of Lincoln Bike Night, Phil Crow who has decided to do something about it.

“I wanted to present a balanced argument to try and show motorists and cyclists that, with a bit of care and thought, we can all use the UKs roads carefully and safely.” said Phil.

Having spoken to the emergency services and to Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, Phil put together a short script back in October 2015 and Share the Road began to take shape.

“Everyone has been really positive about what I’m trying to achieve and when I got Jason Bradbury to agree to present it I was beyond pleased! I just want as many people as possible to take a few minutes, watch the film and share it with their friends… Facebook, Twitter, email etc and if this saves just one life, then I’ve done my job.”

Phil added “I regularly cycle (and drive) on Lincolnshire’s roads. It’s a wonderful county and always great to see more and more people out on two wheels. However, I am always amazed by some of the incidents and near misses I regularly see. My hope is that this film can go some way to raising awareness of how motorists and cyclists can share the road and hopefully reduce some of those incidents.”

Share the Road is on Twitter @sharetheroad_uk so please follow, message and RT the film so you spread the word. There will be car stickers also available so keep an eye on social media so you know where to pick one up!

The film is now online and ready to share at https://youtu.be/wJgr_u_ERzs and you can watch it below:
